Quality of working life of deaf people

  • Original language description

The paper focuses on the quality of working life of deaf people. The main aim is to describe the possibilities of their employment with regard to the historical context of the labour market situation and current possibilities. Further, the other goal of the article analyses subjective perception of deaf people within their possibilities of employability on the labour market and overall satisfaction. To obtain the data a qualitative approach was implemented through a semi-structured interview with deaf people, who also actively communicate through the sign language. The semi-structured interview was then rewritten and subjected to a content analysis. The results have shown that the major problem in realization of career goals and plans among deaf people is negatively connected with communication problems that have arisen from their “hearing impairment”. Due to these results, the respondents also perceive themselves discriminated at labour market by receiving worse and under-funded jobs than equally qualified employees. The paper responds to the current state of the problem of social inclusion and the quality of life of people with disabilities and supports the equal rights of deaf people in the labour market.
