The Educational Reality of the Beginning Teacher during the Covid-19 Pandemic
Original language description
Education has undergone constant and gradual changes in the past. However, the recent past has brought about a radical change. For more than a year, education has been struggling with the transition from the classic form of teaching to the form of online teaching. The COVID-19 pandemic situation thus requires an online teaching even in the Czech Republic. In this paper, we focus on a small group of teachers who started their professional practice during the transition from the contact form of teaching to its contactless form. They automatically had to adapt to the necessary changes and often deviate from the standards to which they would naturally be exposed at school. Another problem arises from the application and usage of methods, and from the transferring of knowledge through online forms of teaching. Such form of teaching may, for example, be associated with technical difficulties, lack of training, or unpreparedness of the teacher for an online form of teaching. The aim of this paper is to explore and analyze the views of beginning teachers of lower-secondary schools in the educational process, during the pandemic situation in the Czech Republic. The research is based on interviews with lower-secondary school teachers and explores the issue of teaching during a pandemic situation. This study points out the advantages and disadvantages of contactless form of teaching. Its results can serve to improve online teaching and make it easier for beginning teachers to prepare for online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic.
