Original language description
This article examines the challenges of identifying and diagnosing specific learning disabilities (SLD) in pupils with severe visual impairment in the Czech Republic. Misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis can negatively affect these pupils' educational development and well-being. Based on a two-year research project at Palacký University, the study employs qualitative interviews with special education experts and quantitative questionnaires from educators to explore this issue. The findings emphasize the need for tailored diagnostic tools, specific intervention strategies, and a multidisciplinary approach involving educators, psychologists, and medical professionals. The research highlights the importance of professional development for educators and policy changes to support inclusive practices for pupils with SLD and severe visual impairment.
