Influence of early intervention movement program on motor skills development for preschoolers with autism spectrum disorder
Original language description
The purpose of the present study was to assess motor skills performance of preschoolers with autism spectrum disorder after eight weeks of physical activity intervention. Participants included 5 children, 4 male and 1 female, from 62 to 81 months old, who were attending the identical special kindergarten. Both quantitative and qualitative aspects of children's performance were examined. With regards to quantitative examination participants were measured with the test of Movement Assessment Batttery forChildren (Henderson & Sugden, 1992). Qualitative results were obtained through perronal observation. Motor skills intervention program continued eight weeks, and children were tested in pre and post intervention. Over the course of the intervention the four participants improved their motor skills, while ona did not. This study concluded that even preschool children with autism can improve their motor and social skills if they are involved in a physical activity at least twice a week
