Self-evaluation of physical literacy by pupils from elementary and secondary schools - pilot study
Original language description
The aim of the study was to compare the level of PL self-evaluation among three groups of pupils. We used Czech version of Canadian PLAYself tool. The questionnaire was distributed into the elementary schools (n=222), three grammar schools (n=120), and into one practical school (n=86). Differences regarding the type of school were analysed. Practical school pupils had problem with PA on ice (52.3% stated ‘not so good’/’never tried’). Surprisingly, PL self-description was very high in practical school pupils. We assume that these children possess unrealistically high self-confidence. No differences were found between schools. Over 64% of all pupils stated that ‘their fitness is good enough to let them do all the activities they choose’. Quarter of elementary and grammar school pupils recorded low level of PL. For enhancement of PL we recommend in PE to eliminate as many obstacles as possible, encourage pupils, use positive reinforcement for good behaviour and participation in PA.
