The paper is focused on analysis of 120 startups that have been in acceleration or incubation programme between 2015 and 2017 in the Czech Republic and in Austria. The aim of research was to compare startups in the Czech Republic and Austria (startups were mentored and couched in 2 innovation centers), to find out the main reasons for failure and to find the reasons of their successful scale ups. The proposal of recommendations for startups was elaborated based on the research results. The research based on the primary source data was carried on in-depth interviews with 79 Czech technological startups and 41 Austrian technological startups and interviews conducted via individual meetings. The research was carried throughout the years 2015 and 2017 and from a total of 120 startups there are still operating 35 startups in Austria and 54 in the Czech Republic.
