The Common Agricultural Policy and soil protection - selected legal issues
Original language description
Without a doubt, guaranteeing food safety and food security is one of the priorities of the Common Agricultural Policy. However, the factors affecting it often raise questions about what is more important to protect: the environment or agriculture. The relationship between the two has been influenced by two different policies. Food production must take environmental requirements into account and improve the biological properties of resources available for agriculture. In this context, soil is a very important element of the environment used in the production process. The aim of the article is to indicate which EU legal instruments are used to protect soils and affect their quality. In addition, the article aims to answer the question of whether the instruments used in the Member States are effective.
