Analytic method for determination of metallothioneins as tumor markers
Original language description
Introduction. Each year about 10 million new cases of cancer are diagnosed worldwide. Cancer is responsible for 6 million deaths and is the second leading cause of death in developed countries -- one human being die of tumor disease every 10 seconds. Nowadays, many scientific workgroups are concerned with finding of a suitable marker for tumor disease, which could serve for positive, rapid and well-timed diagnosis. It was proved that metallothionein (MT), which belongs to a group of intracellular, low molecular and cysteine-rich proteins, is overexpressed at malignant, high grading tumors. Thus MT could be one of the possible tumor diseases markers.
