Hematological parameters in aberdeen angus bulls and heifers reared in suckling cows systems
Original language description
Hematological parameters (RBC, Hb, Hct, MCV, MCH, MCHC, WBC and differential leukocyte count) of 22 Aberdeen Angus bulls and heifers were monitored during the period of rearing. Blood was sampled from subcaudal vein in the ages of 5, 81, 151, 189 and 273days. There were not found significant differences between the sex, but Hb and Hct tended to be higher in heifers than in bulls. WBC count increased significantly (p<0.01) at the end of the rearing in both of gender. Nevertheless, no significant correlations between hematological indicators and age of reared animals were established. Data obtained in this study can be used to evaluating health status in extensive beef cattle breeding.
