Economic position of the Czech wood-processing industry is not particularly strong as compared with other processing industries in the Czech Republic. The general comparative analysis of the financial flow indicators shows that the wood-processing industry participates in figures for the whole processing industry by about 5%. One of challenges to change the situation into a greater share of the industry is seen in the utilization of resources from the EU Structural Funds in the coming years. The resources may be channeled into the area of research and development, development of human resources or to support innovation efforts in companies and the amount that can be utilized in 2007-2013 from the EU Structural Funds for these three areas is nearly 7 mld. EUR. Provided that required conditions are fulfilled, the resources can be certainly utilized also by enterprises from other branches of the national economy. Ekonomická pozice dřevozpracujícího průmyslu není, ve srovnání s jinými zpracovatelskými odvětvími v České republice, nikterak výrazná. Ze základní srovnávací analýzy tokových finančních ukazatelů vyplývá, že se dřevozpracující průmysl podílí na srovnávaných hodnotách celého zpracovatelského průmyslu cca 5 %. Příležitostí, jak tuto situaci změnit ve prospěch většího podílu, je možnost čerpat v nadcházejících letech finanční prostředky ze strukturálních fondů Evropské unie. Finanční prostředky mohou směřovat mj. do oblasti výzkumu a vývoje, rozvoje lidských zdrojů nebo posílení inovačního úsilí podniků. Do těchto tří jmenovaných oblastí je možné čerpat v období 2007--2013 ze strukturálních fondů EU celkem téměř 7 mld. EUR. Za splnění příslušných podmínek mají samozřejmě možnost čerpat tyto prostředky i podniky v jiných odvětvích národního hospodářství. Jak velký podíl z těchto prostředků získají podniky dřevozpracujícího průmyslu a jak prostředky využijí k posílení pozice svého odvětví,
