The response of wood plates to high velocity impact.

Original language description

Experimental results on the ballistic testing of plates made from different woods are presented. Wood plates of different thickness have been impacted by the 7.62 projectile at different velocities ranging from 100 to 800 m/s. Limit velocities, V50, havebeen determined. These velocities are compared with the mechanical properties obtained at high strain rate testing ( Hopkinson Split Pressure Bar Test). The simple analytical model of the projectile penetration into wood targets has been suggested. A reasonable agreement of the measured values of the projectile residual velocities with computed ones has been reported.
