The objective of this study was to determine how diets containing lupin meal affect the chemical composition of breast and thigh muscles in broiler chickens. Unlike the control group the experimental feeding mixtures contained lupin meal that replaced one third or two thirds of nitrogen-containing substances (NSs) of extracted soybean meal (P1 and P2). As far as chemical composition is concerned, chickens receiving the lupin-containing feed showed a significant (P LESS-THAN OR EQUAL TO 0.01) increase in the ash content in breast muscles. On the contrary, in thigh muscles in group P2, the ash content decreased significantly (P LESS-THAN OR EQUAL TO 0.01). The content of calcium showed an increasing trend in both breast and thigh muscles in both experimental groups. The replacement of soybean meal with lupin meal is reflected in the amino acid composition of muscle in experimental groups of broiler chickens. Our results show that lupin seed is a suitable substitute for NSs contained in soybean extracted meal.
