The aim of this study was to determine the effect of minor mycotoxin enniatin B (Sigma-Aldrich, dissolved in methanol) on dry matter digestibility of total mixed ration. The experiments were performed in vitro using a rumen fluid-buffer system. Rumen fluid was taken from dairy cows fed on diet consisted of maize silage (22 kg), lucerne haylage (12 kg), meadow hay (3 kg), feeding straw (1.5 kg), supplemental mixture (6.7 kg) and mineral mixture (0.1 kg, all on as-fed basis). Samples of the same diet modified to forage:concentrate ratio of 60:40 were incubated in buffered rumen fluid at 39°C for 24 h with addition of methanol (K+) or enniatin B in concentrations either 10 ?g/ml (E10) or 20 ?g/ml (E20) and compared to control (K-). In vitro organic matter digestibility differed among groups (P<0.05) and was 34.3, 32.8, 36.1 and 31.4 % in K-, K+, E10 and E20, respectively. Results suggested that higher levels of enniatin B in the diet may have inhibitory effect on rumen microbiota and can negatively influence the dry matter digestibility.
