Assessing the level of students? reading literacy as a support of the teaching quality at universities
Original language description
Student teachers at the University of Hradec Králové (UHK) should be provided with competencies which would help them manage their university study and which, in the students´ future teaching practice, would enable them to enhance reading literacy of pupils. The knowledge of the reading literacy attainments of the Faculty of Education students is the condition for preventive and intervention programmes integrated into their study. The aims of our empirical research were to find: 1. strategies of the UHKstudents for working with text (especially for learning from text), 2. their experiences with the enhancement of reading literacy in previous school education, and 3. factors and intensity of interest in reading in the course of their lives. The research sample were 196 UHK first-year students of various teaching qualifications. Results: Owing to the method of teaching used until now, the students´ learning competence for university study and for life or teacher´s profession is relative
