Original language description
The research article focuses on a stylistic means of formality, namely the conjunct nonetheless, comparing its distribution in original English texts and in the English texts which have been translated from Czech. The investigated subcorpora were created from one part of the Czech National Corpus - the corpus InterCorp11, a parallel corpus consisting of the same texts in different languages. The research attempted to explore nonetheless as a cohesive device expressing contradiction, concentrating on not only its frequency of occurrence in English-Czech and Czech-English fiction, but also possible collocates and Czech translation equivalents and their stylistic formality.
