Highly Active Nanofibrous Wound Dressing Material with Barrier Function and Active Drug Release

  • Original language description

The aim of this work is the development of highly functionalizes nanofiber material for wound dressing. A precondition for successful chronic wound treatment is to reduce contamination by microorganisms. The main idea is to prepare the wound cover for topical application an to release the drug sufficiently long to prevent frequent rewinding and other material consumption. The cover combines the properties of barrier against contamination, the carrier of active therapeutic substance with gradual release and also the breathable nanofibrous biocompatible material. The dressing material consists of nanofibrous layer made by electrospinning. The surface of nanofibres is covered with an active substance (e.g. antibiotics) enclosed to liposomes or solid lipid microparticles which provide gradual release at approx. 37 °C. Produced dressing was tested and verified by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), release kinetics, antimicrobial tests and cytotoxicity assays.
