Rapid Activation of Plasticity-Associated Gene Transcription in Hippocampal Neurons Provides a Mechanism for Encoding of One-Trial Experience
Original language description
This paper shows that even a very limited one-trial experience is sufficient to trigger expression of the immediate-early gene Arc in the hippocampus. Complete CA3 ensembles are activated even by a brief experience, whereas CA1 ensembles continue to develop with extended experience. The Arc expression in the hippocampus depends on input from medial septum, emphasizing the link to synaptic plasticity and learning
