    Flow cytometry in conservation: detecting hybridization risks in threatened plant species

  • Original language description

    The study demonstrated that flow cytometry (FCM) is an effective tool for detecting hybridization in endangered plant species. In all examined species pairs, cytotypes with intermediate genome sizes were identified, supporting the presence of hybrids. Both heteroploid and homoploid systems revealed signs of hybridization, with the latter showing a continuum of genome sizes between parental taxa. FCM thus offers valuable initial insights for conservation efforts and can be recommended as a practical method in biodiversity monitoring.
