The Second World War and its outcome continue to fascinate the Czech public. A topic attractive to the media is the period of the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich and the second martial law. In the early 1960s, the Nazi crimes of this period were investigated thoroughly, although investigators in the Czechoslovak government commission for prosecuting Nazi war criminals repeatedly came up against total lack of evidence which would stand up to West German courts. Kilian Rupprecht’s case was exceptional amongst known cases for how conclusive the documents proving his guilt in the death of Czechoslovak citizens were.
