The new economics of higher education

Original language description

Higher education promotes economic development through the research, but first and foremost through the learning that leads to an increase in competencies. But the institutional setting (the organization of higher education) is important in that process. Such organization might imply differentiation between more and less research intensive universities, funding based on output measures, while university autonomy has to be the leading principle to realize the power of the professors/professionals in terms of value added in education and research.
