    In recent years, organizational researchers have become increasingly concerned with negative impacts of the global marketization of higher education on well-being of academics. In particular, it has been argued that the shift from academic self-rule to market governance has increased incidence of destructive organizational communication, such as workplace bullying. Few studies have considered, however, how market governance intersects with other, still co-existing regimes of higher education governance.To address this issue, the current study explored faculty experiences with workplace bullying in transforming Czech universities, defined by a mix of academic self-rule and emerging marketization. Drawing on interviews with 25 bullied academics, the study examined what aspects of academic organizational cultures the participants perceived as conducive to workplace bullying.
