Original language description
This chapter relates to the British Psychological Society’s area of Well-being and Work. The chapter focuses on psychological health in the workplace and considers the role of the employee in the stress and coping process. The chapter first outlines the important role of psychological well-being in work life and introduces some key relevant theories. It then offers an overview of the impact of workplace well-being on organisations, exploring the value that a flourishing workforce can bring and the risks associated with high levels of stress, and offers a contemporary look at the well-being issues associated with using technology at work. The chapter turns then to employee-focused interventions that are designed to improve psychological well-being. These include resilience training, cognitive behavioural therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy.
