The Effects of Sterilization Techniques on Cell Biocompatibility Using Needleless Electrospun PCL Nanofibers
Original language description
Recently, the needleless electrospinning technique has attracted growing attention within tissue engineering applications. Polycaprolactone nanofibers sterilized using ethylene oxide (EtOx) and ethanol (EtOH), were tested as a universal scaffold suitable for the culture of skin cells (fibroblasts and keratinocytes). There were no morphological or chemical changes in the PCL scaffolds detected, together with no difference in cell adhesion and proliferation. However, a higher metabolic activity of the cells was observed on the EtOH-sterilized scaffolds versus the EtOX-sterilized samples in vitro.
