The leucine zipper region of Myb oncoprotein regulates commitment of hematopoietic progenitors.

  • Original language description

The development of blood cells proceeds from pluripotent stem cells through multipotent progenitors into mature cells belonging to at least eight different leneages. We found that the leucine zipper region (LZR) of the v-Myb transcription factor affets the lineage commitment of myeloid progenitors. We propose that Myb LZR can function as a molecular switch affecting expression of lineage specifying factors and directing the development of hematopoietic progenitors into either myeloid or erythroid lineages.
