Transgenic murine models employed to study gastric epithelial stem cells
Original language description
Gastric epithelial cells undergo very quick turnover due to the harmful environment present in the stomach. It is hypothesized that the turnover is driven by gastric epithelial stem cells. Surprisingly, the gastric epithelial stem cells have not been well characterized in terms of cellular markers and differentiation properties. The aim of this chapter is to summarize the current knowledge on the gastric epithelial cell markers and murine models that were used to study these multipotent cells.
