A Pan-European Translation Cluster? Synonymic variations in the vernacular translation choices for τυμπανιστριαί / tympanistriae (Ps 67:26)
Original language description
This study examines the Greek word τυμπανιστριαί (Latin tympanistriae), referring to young women playing tambourines, from Psalm 67:26 and its medieval translations in Europe. These different translation possibilities reflect the cultural, linguistic and historical context of the different languages and illustrate the complexity of translating religious texts.
