Legal and Quasi-legal Thresholds of the Accession of the Czech Republic to the EC.
Original language description
Article deals with the relationship of International and/or European laws and Czech municipal law. In order to ratify the accession treaties and to accord direct effect and supremacy to EC law, it is necessary in some candidate countries to adapt their constitutions and incorporate provisions concerning the transfer of sovereign or state powers to an international organization such as EU. The same applies for the Czech Republic. Czech Constitution was lacking provisions enabling a smooth fulfilment of its international law obligation and article also pointed out at some practical difficulties that may arise even after the amendment of the Constitution. Critisism has aimed at the way of approximation of EC law as required by EC bodies either.
