Permittivity of polycrystalline material
Original language description
Polycrystalline material is modeled as a close-packed structure composed of uniaxial grains (crystallites) of varying orientation, shape and size. Effective dielectric response of such systems can be described using the spectral representation. Its formal similarity to the isotropic 2?component composite provides the same description in the framework of the spectral representation, however, with different meaning of structural characteristics. In particular, the volume fraction, which is used in the spectral representation of composites, is replaced with the spatial averaged value of crystallite orientations. The structural parameters depend on the true volume fraction and also on the orientation of grains. This is illustrated on a simple example of multilayer structure.
