Hybrid Composite Replacements with Biotolerant Surfaces
Original language description
The philosophy of development of artificial substitutes for a human skeleton follows the path of proposal and investigation of such materials whose mechanical properties are very similar to biomechanical properties of a bone tissue and whose biophysicaland biochemical interactions with the surrounding living tissue do not cause necroses, or do not lead to any initiation of other pathological processes. The biotolerance of the living tissue was proved on the boundary surfaces between the implant (UltraHigh Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE)) with copolymer (glycosaminoglycane (GAG)) and the living tissue. The histological findings proved a well-organized tissue of the developed capsule in the surroundings of the implant. Fibronectin as well as a very low expression of chondrotin sulfate was found in the proximity of the implants. The moduli of elasticity of the investigated PE-C/Si composite implants with the UHMWPE lamina coated with the copolymer GAG are describe
