In the area of road infrastructure, the noise issue has recently become one of the most discussed topics in Europe and it also qualifies as one of the five main problems of the European road infrastructure from the perspective of having a negative impacton the environment and human health. In western European countries the noise issue has become a highly topical political question in recent years. More than 60% of city populations in Europe are exposed to noise levels exceeding 55 dB(A). The research in road pavement technology in recent years has been focused on optimizing porous asphalt mixes for wearing courses as one of the possibilities to reduce noise emissions occurring at the road surface.
