What can jigsaw puzzles bring to material modelling
Original language description
The talk briefly overviews homogenization techniques ranging from analytical schemes to numerical homogenization methods, in which a question of suitable representation of material microstructure is of great importance. The author presents a generalization of the standard Periodic Unit Cell based on Wang tiling, a jigsaw puzzles-like concept. This concept allows to efficiently produce arbitrarily large microstructure realizations. The talk then covers the following two topics: (i) design of tiles morphology and (ii) an application of the concept in numerical homogenization of elastic properties of Alporas aluminium foam.
