Medical Application of 3D Polymer Gel Dosimeter Evaluated by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance
Original language description
The polymer-gel dosimeter is based on radiation-induced polymerization and cross-linking of acrylic monomers. The dosimeter is tissue equivalent and allows to measure 3-dimensional dose distributions. The formation of cross-linked polymers in the irradiated regions of the gel increases the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxation rates of neighboring water protons. The purpose of this study was to test the use of BANG-2 type polymer-gel dosimeter for measurement of dose distribution in stereotactic radiosurgery with the Leksell gamma knife. BANG-2 type polymer-gel dosimeter was prepared. To obtain calibration curve (NMR 1/T2 response to absorbed dose) a few dosimeters were homogeneously irradiated by 60Co gamma photons in Gammacell 220 unit. To measure dose distribution from the Leksell gamma knife, testing flask filled by the gel was fixed in the head phantom and then irradiated based on calculated treatment plan. Experimentally obtained results from the irradiated phantom were co
