Thermal - expansionary hydrolysis of wheat straw as a step to enhance biogas production.
Original language description
Present-day operating biogas plants are based on the treatment of lignocellulosic biomass which can be found in such materials as agriculture and forestry wastes, municipal solid waste, waste paper, wood and herbaceous energy crops. However, the inherentproperties caused by composite structure make them resistant to microbial attack. A new physical pretreatment technology called thermal-expansionary hydrolysis was used in order to increase the biodegrability of typical lignocellulosic material namely wheat straw. The experiments were carried out with 5% content of wheat straw by weight in feedstock under processing temperature and residence time in ranges 170 - 200 °C and 0 - 60 minutes. The biodegradation rate associated with final glucose yield, pHand structural changes grows up with increasing processing temperature and residence time. The maximum biodegrability was found to be at processing temperature 200 °C and residence time above 40 minutes. Treated feedstock by this way was
