New Concepts of Structures and Control of Machine Tools

The paper deals with the overview of new (non-traditional) concepts of structures and control of machine tools that have been recently investigated at FME CTU in Prague. This can serve as a forecast of future machine tools. The basis of the concepts andtheir expected and known properties are described and critically evaluated and their new modifications are proposed. These concepts cover parallel, cable, inflated, robotic structures, hierarchical and redundant actuation, floating principle and cooperative concepts, mechatronic and adaptronic concepts, redundant and additional measurement and the advanced control concepts.
