*This study describes an influence of a gross indicated efficiency change on both a net indicated efficiency and pumping losses in the case of throttled spark ignition (SI) engine at part load. A mathematical model was developed to understand the interaction between losses, caused by throttling for constant b.m.e.p. and increased gross efficiency. Results were verified using an experimental data. Experiments were carried out on a four-cylinder SI engine, natural gas fueled, equipped with a three way catalyst with stoichiometric concept. Both the pumping losses and the net indicated efficiency are increased with improvement of the gross indicated efficiency, as expected.
