Energy-economic study of thermal-expansionary pretreatment for its implementation at biogas plant
Original language description
Thermal-expansionary pretreatment is a novel environmentally friendly technology that has a very high potential to be installed in various industrial biofuel technologies, where lignocellulosic biomass is processed. Its principle is based on the boiling of biomass in water, that is maintained by pressure in liquid state, under a process temperature and a residence time. When a residence time is over, a batch is immediatelly decompressed into a storage vessel. It was measured experimentally that at temperature 185 °C and residence time 40 min the treatment increases biodegradability of wheat straw by around 23 %. Also, it was observed the highest production of methane raises up to 50 %. So, obtained data open us new doors in either implementing the modern technology into existing plants, or building the new generation plants for humanity. The aim of this study was therefore to estimate energy-economic balance of the treatment.
