Original language description
Experimental investigation of homogeneous mixture combustion of natural gas and air mixture in a scavenged prechamber ignition engine at low load engine operation will be presented in the paper. The authors developed a prechamber scavenged with natural gas and installed it into a cylinder head of a light duty truck engine. The unique experimental arrangement allows measurement of the combustion pressure in the prechamber and in the main combustion chamber in cylinder simultaneously. Detailed thermodynamic analyses of the cylinder pressure traces were performed and the combustion rates were evaluated and analyzed. The results were compared with the conventional spark ignition system measured on the same engine.
