Design of an SiC Inverter for a Residential Heat-Pump
Original language description
The design of a SiC-based frequency inverter for a residential heating heat pump is presented. The nominal power of the hermetically sealed heat pump scroll compressor is 3 kW. With a margin for future power increase, the frequency inverter was designed for a nominal power of 5 kW, with DC link voltage of 650 V. The paper describes the design and experimental validation of the device, made in two versions. One version was with surface mount SiC MOSFETs and the second with through-hole components. Experimental results up to 2.5 kW are show. The designed inverter was tested with an induction motor on a dynamometer. Thermal measurement was also performed, and this resulting in a presented issues with gate driver DC/DC converters.
