The chapter is focused on an overview of basic artificial neural networks (ANN), e.g. multilayer neural network (MLP), Hopfield network, Kohonen's self-organizing maps and ART. Methods and features of training algorithms, e.g. error backpropagation in MLP, Boltzmann learning and Learning Vector Quantization (LVQ), are described. The chapter also discusses possibilities and utilization of ANN, e.g. in expert systems, image processing and data compression.
