OWL Ontology Agent based on FIPA proposal
Original language description
Ontologies are important for communication in multi-agent systems. The approach that is typical for the current implementations is that ontology is hard-coded in agents. However this is not suitable for open multi-agent systems, where new agents that usedifferent ontologies may join the community. We analyze the FIPA ontology service proposal that describes an idea of ontology agent that would help other agents to cope with multiple ontologies. We compare this proposal with the approach of the SemanticWeb community, particularly with the Web Ontology Language OWL. We show the advantages of using OWL for the ontology service that is based on the FIPA proposal. We describe and discuss an implementation of an ontology agent that operates with OWL. We illustrate how this agent allows helping in one of the scenarios described in the FIPA ontology proposal.
