HRTF modeling by different methods
Original language description
Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF) is commonly used to describe how an ear receives a sound from some point in space. By comparing the results of the convolution of a sound signal and a Head Related Impulse Response (HRIR, inverse Fourier transform of HRTF) in both ears, we are able to localize the source of the sound. There are different ways to obtain a HRTF, measurement being the most obvious. In this paper, we concentrate on three different ways to obtain HRTF of any human – measurement, personalization and a synthesis based on a structural mathematical model of a human body. Each method is shortly described and the results are presented. The aim is to discuss the pros and the cons of each method. We also try to predict the results of the subjective localization tests with different HRTF that are planned in near future, and suggest directions for future work in this area.
