Our study is focused on computerized cognitive training (CCT) as a means of improving individual's cognitive abilities, esp. In reducing cognitive decline in elderly patients. According to psychological research, solving meaningful and challenging tasks is more effective than than solving puzzles or artificial tasks in cartoon world. That is why we have decided to challenge our users in complex driving situations. We review existing driving simulators and extend one to provide a featureful, yet simple to use and affordable driving simulator & experiment environment. Our solution is available as open source at github.com/breznak/openDS/ and offers convenient and reproducible way for interested researchers who plan to set up their own experiments using designed “cognitive distractors” as sources of stress and recording the driving situation, cognitive load and (optionally collected) biosignals in real-world locations - familiar to the user, locations.
