Original language description
This article looks into the safety and operational aspects of operator-customized vertical profiles for nonprecision continuous descent final approaches. The idea of using increased final descent gradients is based on the fact that various types of aircraft used in commercial air transport have their performance characteristics better than those required by the standardized procedures currently in use. Operators would benefit from a possibility of implementing their own procedures in terms of fuel costsavings but the conditions and requirements for those procedures have to be examined carefully so as not to decrease the level of safety. Several aspects including the compliance with the regulatory environment are addressed in this text.
