Experimental investigation on the electrostatic receiver with small-sized backing electrode
Original language description
A recently published analytical and numerical modeling of an electrostatic transducer with a central cylindrical backing electrode of small radius surrounded by a flat annular cavity behind the circular membrane shows several advantages in terms of sensitivity, bandwidth and the compactness of the device against others designs [J. Acous. Soc. Am. 134(5), 2013, 3573 - 3579]. The experimental study of this kind of transducer is then of interest. For this purpose, an enlarged electrostatic receiver has been fabricated. This device contains the circular membrane of the diameter of 50 mm, the cylindrical backing electrode of the diameter of 20 mm, the thickness of the air gap between them being adjustable. The experimental results, including the membrane displacement field and the pressure sensitivity for different air-gap thicknesses, are presented. The comparison with the results of a previously published theoretical model is discused and possible explanations of the observed discrepancie
