The new era of tower air traffic control rises up ? the remote tower (rtwr) concept

  • Original language description

In the age of ATM market liberalization in the air traffic management European region are the air navigation serviceproviders obliged to look up for the new and more effective ways of the air traffic service provision. Recently has come into the world the new concept called the remote tower (RTWR) solution (formerly known as virtual tower). The basic ideais that the air traffic service (ATS) at an airport is performed somewhere else than in the local control tower and still ableto provide air traffic control (ATC). Air navigation service providers implementing this concept are expecting mainbenefits in cost efficiency originates in several aspects described in this article. Although basic concept or RTWR seemsto be really pioneering, the attitude of air traffic controllers (ATCO) and their professional association (IFATCA) soundsadversely restrained.
