Original language description
Railway transportation in the Czech Republic has long-term tradition, since 19th century. The length of rail track in the Czech Republic is 9 458 km, including the 1 329 km of rail track intended for international transportation within the European railway system. It creates part of critical infrastructure in many cases that shall have certain rate of resilience. The main focus of work is to find out the common causes of rail accidents in the Czech Republic, which endanger the affected areas just from the view of critical infrastructure and area safety. Railway accidents, incidents and near-misses are investigated by national agencies according to the European directives for providing new safety precautions and to measure rail safety performance. Results of our work are obtained by analysis of more than 200 investigation reports of The Rail Safety Inspection and on the basis of application of risk engineering methods.
