Attachment of collagen type I to polypropylene

  • Original language description

Air RF-plasma treatment followed by collagen type I attachment was applied for polypropylene surface modification. A new biomaterial suitable for cell attachment and growth was prepared. Treated polypropylene surfaces were characterized by EPR, sessile drop contact angles, FT IR and SEM methods. Three modes of collagen chemical modification were used for coating preparation: non-modified, periodate oxidized and glutaraldehyde crosslinked gel. Collagen was deposited on two types of the substrate surfaces: air RF-plasma treated one, and ammonia post-treated air RF-plasma preparation. Peeling strengths of the interfacial joints polypropylene/collagen were determined. They were ranging between 40 to 50 N/m.
