Novel Approach for Fabrication of Bacterial Cellulose/Nanohydroxyapatite Biocomposites for Bone Tissue Regeneration

  • Original language description

Bone tissue engineering/regeneration is a complicated and dynamic research area where, implementation of an ideal scaffold is one of the important factor in the clinical success of bone tissue engineering grafts. Therefore, development of novel biomaterials based on hydroxyapatite (HAp) is an urge to overcome the disadvantages (i.e. poor mechanical properties) of HAp sintered ceramics, or to improve bioactivity of the matrix like polymer. HAp in the form of nanocomposites revealed improved bioactivity compared to microscale HAp composites. In this paper focused has been given mainly to establish a simple and novel methodology for the fabrication of bacterial cellulose based hydroaxyapatite nanocomposites (BC-nHA nanocomposites). Fabrication of “BC-nHA nanocomposites” along with biosynthesis of BC pellicles in H.S. fermentation medium, is a simple and novel approach and described below.
