Preparation of fibrous structures based on PVDF terpolymer

  • Original language description

Poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene-chlorotrifluoroethylene) (PVDF-TrFE-CTFE) is a unique electroactive polymer that has gained attention in the field of tissue engineering. Its combination of piezoelectric, ferroelectric, and biocompatible properties makes it suitable for various applications in regenerative medicine. For the possible processing of PVDF-TrFE-CTFE, solutions of this terpolymer were prepared where dimethyl sulfoxide was chosen as the solvent. The solutions were further processed by extrusion 3D printing, electrospinning and electric field assisted 3D printing (EFA 3D printing). Final fiber structures were analyzed by microscopic methods to demonstrate the effect of the solvents and process parameters on the resulting objects. The piezoelectric response of the fibres prepared by EPA 3D printing was measured using piezoresponse force microscopy. With regard to the possible use of the terpolymer for biological applications, the residual solvent in the samples was analyzed by infrared spectroscopy to confirm their absence.
