Advancements and Perspectives of Cell-Assembled Extracellular Matrix Production for Anisotropic Tissues
Original language description
Extracellular matrix (ECM) plays a pivotal role in formation of tissue architecture and orchestrating cellular phenotype. These properties can be mimicked by in vitro cell-assembled extracellular matrix (CAM) sheets, an innovative form of biomaterial in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. This cellular self-assembly approach evolved from the inherent ability of cells to organise and deposit ECM components. lt leads to empowering cells to actively participate in the m1m1c of the native surrounding microenvironment and architecture of anisotropie tissues. The goal is to obtain an intact ECM with preserved composition and architecture of the original tissue in a controlled manner, potentially leading to the creation of tissue-like structures with enhanced cellinstructive properties.
